Essential tips on keeping safe from electrical panels at home or in any industry

Every owner is very well aware of the dos and don’ts of messing with an electrical panel. Some are aware of what lays beneath the panel which cautions them to use it properly while some are unaware of what lays beneath the panel which cautions them to simple stay away from the panel. Since we are pioneering in the field electrical panels, we would like to impart some basic knowledge to you about your home’s electrical system.

What is an electrical panel?

An electrical panel is an enclosed box that houses your electrical switches to your home’s power supply. Circuits of electrical wiring distribute the power supply from a main source to the entire house. Electricity is controlled by a series of circuit breakers that distribute power to each of your rooms. Circuit breakers protect the wiring from electrical surges or shorts, effectively shutting off the power supply when tripped. Every electrical panel has a specific capacity to handle the load of power. If you increase the load capacity, you will need an additional electrical panel to compensate.

How to keep yourself safe from electrical panels?

Safety is the most important concern when working with electricity or electrical panels. Municipal building codes dictate how your electrical system needs to be set up to protect you, your family, and your home. Here are some tips you can follow:

–       Circuit breakers have to shut off the power supply when wires are tripped in order to prevent fires.

–       Wall outlets located in potentially moist areas such as bathrooms and kitchens need to have ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs), which protect you from shock by shutting off the electrical supply to the circuit at the outlet stage.

–       Look out for overhead power lines every time you use a ladder or pole.

–       Call a professional for help trimming trees near power lines.

–       Keep electrical devices and cords away from water.

–       Keep children and pets away from transformers.
